Joey Abitabilo
Joey Abitabilo was born in the Bronx, NY, where he developed a love of food and cooking from his family. He was accepted into the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT on the merits of his strong academics. From there he went on to graduate from Duke University.
After a prestigious internship with Goldman Sachs, Mergers and Acquisitions, London, Joey realized that his true vocational love would be cooking and not finance.
While at Duke, Joey cooked full time for award-winning Chefs Ben and Karen Barker at the Magnolia Grill. He went on to become a Chef under legendary Chef Cindy Pawlcyn at Bix and The Buckeye Roadhouse, both in the San Francisco area. Chef Joey later joined the New England Culinary Institute as an Instructor, moving upward through the ranks to Executive Chef and Program Director of their British Virgin Islands campus. He then moved back to the states, as Executive Chef at North Hills Country Club in Long Island. He was next the Executive Chef of Woodland Golf Club in Newton, Massachusetts.
Lastly, he was the Executive Chef of Shelter Harbor Golf Club in Charlestown, RI from the years 2008 to 2023. During Chef Joey’s long tenure at Shelter Harbor Golf Club, he presented his own educational materials and food demonstrations for national Chef to Chef conferences in Denver, Savannah and Seattle.
